Stop & Shop

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company partners with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in several ways—as a donor of food, funds and of volunteer labor. Many Stop & Shop supermarkets in North Jersey participate in the FoodBank’s Retail Gleaning Program, allowing the FoodBank to regularly obtain nutritious donated food for distribution through our own feeding programs and through our member agencies. In the last 12 months, Stop & Shop stores collectively donated nearly 400,000 pounds of groceries to this program. During the Thanksgiving season, Stop & Shop provides 1,500 turkeys for distribution to families in need.

Through its Our Family Foundation, Stop & Shop provides generous grant funding for two important FoodBank feeding programs: Kids Cafes and Pediatric Pantries. At the pantries, outpatient families of medical centers in three urban communities—Newark, Elizabeth and Paterson—receive approximately 50 pounds of nutritious groceries every month. This program is one of the ways the FoodBank is addressing the strong connection between good nutrition and good health. The Foundation’s grant funding also extends to the FoodBank’s Kids Cafe Program, in which children from low-income communities receive a nutritious meal each school day in the nurturing environment of their after-school program. The Foundation’s grant funding includes health screenings for hundreds of our Kids Cafe children, through our partnership with healthcare organizations.

Stop & Shop New York Metro stores collect financial donations every holiday season through their Food for Friends campaign, which benefits food banks including the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and other feeding programs.

Thank you, Stop & Shop, for your broad and deep partnership with the Community FoodBank, as together we bring food, help and hope to those in need.
