James Marshmon, Director of Student Development and Campus Life at Berkeley College, has been bringing students to volunteer at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey every semester since November of 2021. After a group of his students expressed their desire to give back to the community, James knew that volunteering at CFBNJ was the perfect way for them to get involved.
“I want to set an example for my students. I make sure they come and volunteer with me so they know the importance of giving back to your community, helping others, and just making a meaningful impact in society,” James said.
James is also the Food Pantry Manager for the Berkeley College Foundation Food Pantry at the college’s Woodland Park campus. He understands how important it is for individuals to have adequate food resources, especially on college campuses.
James’s favorite part about volunteering at CFBNJ is being able to participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities, where he can build new relationships. From making wraps in the kitchen to packing food boxes in the warehouse, there’s always an opportunity to help with fun projects and meet new people.
“Every time I’m volunteering, I love to talk and I love to meet people. So, it’s networking and also giving back and just learning something new every time I’m here,” James said.
