Community FoodBank of New Jersey collects diaper products in coordination with Diaper Need Awareness Week

HILLSIDE, NJ — September 24, 2024

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization, is hosting its fourth annual #GreatBigDiaperDrive, a month-long campaign to address diaper need throughout the state. During the month of September, the #GreatBigDiaperDrive will help raise awareness and collect diaper products and funds for New Jersey families in need, culminating with National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 23 – 29. The campaign is spearheaded by CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger volunteers.

Since 2018, CFBNJ has raised funds, generated awareness, and collected diaper products. In 2020, CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger group initiated the #GreatBigDiaperDrive to bolster support for this program. Last year, the campaign collected over 410,000 diapers, tens of thousands of wipes, and other necessities for neighbors in need. Nearly 1 in 2 families in the U.S. struggle to afford diapers, which are not covered by most federally funded public assistance programs, like SNAP and WIC.

“Our annual #GreatBigDiaperDrive helps provide for families who need access to diaper products. Our goal with this campaign is to raise awareness and encourage donations so that all families have enough of these essential supplies,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, President & CEO of CFBNJ. “At CFBNJ, we do more than provide food. Often, families who struggle to keep food on the table also lack access to critical hygiene supplies, like diapers, to keep their babies clean, dry, and healthy.”

Babies require up to 12 diapers per day, which adds up to $80-$100 or more per month per child, a cost many struggling families simply cannot afford. Every $1 donated can provide six diapers to families in need.

CFBNJ is a longtime member of the National Diaper Bank Network and accepts diaper product donations year-round. Most needed items include diapers, wipes, and diaper cream. To find out how to get involved, visit cfbnj.org/gbdd to donate diaper products via CFBNJ’s Amazon Wishlist, visit cfbnj.org/amazon. Send products to CFBNJ’s Hillside warehouse, by selecting the following delivery address at checkout: Megan Vartan, CFBNJ – Women Fighting Hunger’s Gift Registry Address.

CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger supports the goals and priorities of the organization, providing food, help, and hope through hands-on philanthropy, leadership, and collaboration. Skilled volunteer opportunities are available year-round through a program that also provides opportunities for education, personal growth, and a sense of community.
