Volunteer Opportunities at CFBNJ

Volunteers packing boxes with food

CFBNJ Hillside and CFBNJ Egg Harbor Township warehouses are OPEN for volunteers.

  • All volunteers must be aged 12 or older. Teens aged 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult. You must be 18 or older to volunteer at Egg Harbor Township.
  • Fully vaccinated volunteers, who can show proof of vaccination, will not have to do an onsite COVID-19 screening. All unvaccinated volunteers must go through onsite screening upon entering our facilities.
  • Proper PPE (face masks) is required and will be provided if necessary.
  • Each volunteer must complete a GMP Rules Form. Download it here.
  • All work areas maintain social distancing guidelines.
  • Advance sign-ups are required (no walk-ins).

Please use the volunteer signup button above to register.

We are aware of Governor Murphy’s announcement that allows fully vaccinated individuals to enter certain business settings unmasked as of June 4, 2021. And, while we are excited about the announcement, we’ve chosen to maintain our current prevention practices to ensure the safety and protection of our staff, volunteers and visitors.

SB New Volunteer Orientation: (Egg Harbor Township) The first step in scheduling a volunteer shift at CFBNJ in Egg Harbor Township is to attend an orientation, which includes an overview of volunteering, questions answered and a tour of our facility. Please allow 60-75 minutes for orientation. Volunteers must be 18 or over. Watch a video about volunteering at CFBNJ in Egg Harbor Township.

Welcome to the CFBNJ Volunteer Program!

Our volunteer program offers individuals, families and groups of many sizes a meaningful experience to make a direct impact on hunger in a positive and safe environment.

Last year, our volunteers made more than 17,000 site visits, dedicating over 44,000 hours to our cause (that’s equivalent to 21 full-time employees). Click the sign-up button to join their ranks in our Hillside warehouse or at off-site events. Our Volunteer FAQs can help you learn more about what to expect during your visit.

We look forward to seeing you at the FoodBank!

Join the Care Crew!

Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside is launching a Volunteer Warehouse Ambassador program, known as the Care Crew. The Care Crew will be trained volunteers who will support CFBNJ staff to provide guidance, information, and gratitude to volunteer groups (corporate, school, community) in the warehouse.

The Care Crew will assist in:

    • Work with staff to greet and sign-in groups
    • Provide an overview, if staff is unavailable
    • Circulate among the group during the volunteer activity to answer questions about the project or the FoodBank
    • Learn how to work various projects – Food Sorting, Box building, and Pasta
    • Have strong knowledge of FoodBank mission, priorities, and programs
    • Thank volunteer groups at the end of the shift

Care Crew members will be asked to make a one-year commitment which will include an application, interview, orientation session, and commit to two volunteer shifts in Hillside per month. Candidates should have already completed two volunteer shifts at the Hillside warehouse before they apply to join the Care Crew.
