SNAP Application Assistance
at Community Partners
To support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s (CFBNJ’s) mission to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey, CFBNJ’s multi-lingual, state-contracted, SNAP Navigator team offers free in-person and virtual SNAP application assistance services to neighbors throughout our 15-county service area.
We help people who might qualify for benefits in filling out the online SNAP application and offer support to get them ready for eligibility interviews. We also help with other benefits like WIC, school meals, and energy assistance.
Why Bring SNAP Navigators to Your Community?
SNAP is the first line of defense against hunger. It’s the biggest nutrition assistance program run by the USDA and has been proven to play a vital role in tackling food insecurity and promoting healthier eating habits.
SNAP reduces poverty and malnutrition by improving community health and financial security. Connecting those in need with financial support and community resources can not only decreases the risk of food insecurity but also enhances household stability and the ability to manage health.
SNAP helps families bridge temporary periods of unemployment or a family crisis. If a parent loses a job or has a low-paying one, SNAP benefits can help them feed their children until they can improve their situation. After unemployment insurance, SNAP is the most responsive federal program that provides additional support during and after economic downturns.
Get SNAP Training for Your Organization and Clients
The SNAP Navigators even have longer training sessions for partners. These sessions teach our partners’ staff how to use the online SNAP application and who can apply for SNAP. The goal is to teach staff so they can help others fill out the SNAP application.
The SNAP Navigators also have meetings for people in the community who want to learn more about SNAP. These meetings can be online or in person. The goal is to teach people who need help what SNAP is and how to apply. This helps them know what to do when they work with a SNAP Navigator to sign up for SNAP benefits.
