On May 4th, the Single Use Plastic Bag Ban took effect. This legislation prohibits the distribution of single use plastic bags in the state of New Jersey. Food assistance organizations, like the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and our network partners (food pantries, soup kitchens, and more), have a 6-month extension until November 6th to accommodate this permanent transition, and we need your help!
The Single Use Plastic Bag Ban presents a new challenge for our network partners. Our community of food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens relies solely on donations and grant funds to feed our neighbors in need. As our network partners adjust to this a new method of distribution, CFBNJ needs your help in ensuring our network partners stay afloat and continue getting food and other necessities into the hands of hungry New Jerseyans cost-effectively.
Please consider donating new or gently used reusable shopping bags to local pantries. Help us to make sure that our neighbors are receiving their food in a clean and efficient manner while we also help the environment by phasing out single-use plastic bags.
Where can I donate my reusable shopping bags?
Currently, nearly 300 of our network partners need reusable shopping bags! Until further notice, they will be accepting donations for new or gently used reusable shopping bags.
