COMMUNITY FOODBANK OF NEW JERSEY AWARDED HIGH MARKS FROM AIB INTERNATIONAL
Organization Scores Within the Top 5% of Food Banks for Food Safety Standards
HILLSIDE, NJ—May 26, 2021
Today, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s (CFBNJ) staff celebrated receiving top marks from AIB International for high standards of food safety at both of their warehouses. The organization’s 285,000 square-foot headquarters in Hillside received a score of 940 out of 1,000, while its 29,000 square-foot facility in Egg Harbor Township was awarded a tremendous 990 out of 1,000. These scores put CFBNJ in the top 5% of food banks nationwide for food safety, even while its operations teams were stretched to the max responding to COVID-19.
AIB International is an organization committed to ensuring the safety of the food supply chain. Feeding America requires its member food banks to undergo annual audits to help them heed industry best practices and legal requirements for safe food handling. In audits conducted by AIB International, facilities begin with a full 1,000 points, and deductions are made as warranted. A 700 or higher is a passing score, while a score of 900 or higher designates an elite food safety organization.
“I’m proud of the scores that our Hillside and Egg Harbor Township warehouses achieved in this year’s AIB audit,” said Carlos Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “At CFBNJ, our operations teams at both locations work tirelessly to ensure that we abide by stringent standards that ensure proper food handling and, ultimately, the health and safety of our neighbors in need.”
While CFBNJ is proud to have passed the audit with high marks every year since its implementation in 2014, this year’s scores are the highest that the organization has ever received. The facilities, which have a combined square footage exceeding that of five football fields, were judged based on operational methods and practices, maintenance for food safety, cleaning practices, and more.
By achieving top marks in an audit as rigorous as AIB International’s, CFBNJ proudly ensures the safety and dignity of struggling New Jerseyans.
