COMMUNITY FOODBANK OF NEW JERSEY WELCOMES ADELE LATOURETTE AS

SENIOR DIRECTOR OF POLICY & ADVOCACY

LaTourette brings decades of experience and partnerships to the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization

HILLSIDE, NJ—March 9, 2022

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) announced today that it will welcome Adele LaTourette as its new Senior Director of Policy & Advocacy. LaTourette comes from Hunger Free New Jersey, where she served as Director for over 40 years, forging productive relationships with policymakers at all levels and championing transformative legislation that has expanded school breakfast, increased SNAP eligibility, provided food assistance to more low-income seniors, and more.

She will continue this critical work at CFBNJ, the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization, where advocacy goes hand in hand with food distribution, aiming to shorten the line of neighbors in need at food pantries. LaTourette will spearhead CFBNJ’s efforts to ensure access to nutritious food for everyone in New Jersey through impactful policy developments.

“Adele is someone whose achievements I have followed and admired throughout my career fighting hunger and its root causes. She is a leading voice in hunger-relief,” said Carlos Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “I am thrilled to announce that she will be joining us at CFBNJ, and I look forward to working side by side with her to advance food security in New Jersey through state and federal activism.”

About 800,000 people in New Jersey are food insecure, including 200,000 children. Recently, increased state funding for food banks, historic expansion of SNAP, and measures to address food waste, food deserts, and college hunger – all championed by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin – have made measurable differences. There is still much more work to be done, however.

“I have devoted my career to the fight against hunger in New Jersey, and I am excited to continue this journey in my new role at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey,” LaTourette said. “Together, we can achieve more wins on behalf of children, seniors, parents, and all of our neighbors in need.”

##

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), a member of Feeding America®, has been delivering food, help and hope across the state for more than 45 years. Last year, CFBNJ provided nutritious food for over 85 million meals through its network of more than 800 community partners including pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, mobile pantries, and child and senior feeding programs throughout the 15 New Jersey counties it serves. For our hungry neighbors, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is the powerful agent of change that fills the emptiness caused by hunger and provides resources that are essential to earning a sustainable living.
