For over 30 years, Wawa has been a steadfast supporter of CFBNJ and our mission. The Wawa Foundation, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, has continued to expand its commitment to hunger-relief year after year.
Wawa has served as a generous partner for several CFBNJ events, initiatives, and campaigns, such as CFBNJ’s annual Check-Out Hunger® campaign. Wawa has been a Check-Out Hunger® participant for over 20 years and was the campaign’s first convenience store chain partner. For the 2023 campaign alone, Wawa raised over $1.5 million to benefit 27 Feeding America food banks in 11 states in the Northeast and Florida.
Each year at their Wawa Day celebration, Wawa also provides gift cards for neighbors in need to help them make ends meet. This year, CFBNJ was presented with $25,000 worth of gift cards as we celebrated 60 years of Wawa. These will be given out at community distributions and to students through several of our college pantry partners.
In 2024, Wawa sponsored two of CFBNJ’s largest events, our 24-Hour Pack-A-Thon and annual Blue Jean Ball. At the 2024 Blue Jean Ball, Wawa was one of our FOOD Award honorees for their role as a Check-Out Hunger® signature partner.
Wawa also encourages employees to get involved in the community by participating in hands-on volunteer experiences at CFBNJ. In 2023 alone, Wawa team members volunteered at 10 events between CFBNJ’s Hillside, Egg Harbor Township, and mobile pantry locations. Last year, over 80 Wawa employees completed more than 260 volunteer hours.
“From actively supporting CFBNJ events to raising funds annually through Check-Out Hunger®, Wawa’s commitment to ending hunger in New Jersey is nothing short of amazing,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “Their involvement truly extends to every facet of our work.”
