Faces of Hunger: Meet Frankie

Frankie, 49, worked multiple jobs for most of her life, but now she’s disabled and struggles to get by.

“I have to itemize and stretch it,” she told us, “but my income doesn’t really last through the month.”

She has trouble affording period supplies, in particular, and visits one of the FoodBank’s Period Initiative distributions to avoid resorting to unhealthy alternatives.

“Times are hard, and these are so expensive in the store,” Frankie said. “I’m struggling.”

Without the Period Initiative, Frankie doesn’t know how she would access the supplies that she needs to ensure her safety and mobility each month.

“This really helps me get through the month,” she said.

Support for the FoodBank’s Period Initiative is provided by the Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
