22ND ANNUAL TURKEY DRIVE TO PROVIDE HOLIDAY MEALS DESPITE HISTORIC INFLATION

Community FoodBank of New Jersey will collect holiday food items at nearly 70 sites across the state

HILLSIDE, NJ—November 17, 2021

This year, inflation and supply chain issues are making it harder than ever for neighbors to afford food for the holidays. Many of them will turn to food banks and pantries for help getting Thanksgiving meals. To ensure that every family has what they need for a happy Thanksgiving, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) expects to distribute about 37,000 turkeys and chicken roasters and will receive even more at its 22nd annual Turkey Drive.

The Turkey Drive will be held at nearly 70 sites statewide including supermarkets, churches, and other community hubs on Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20. Visit cfbnj.org/turkey for an interactive map of locations and times.

CFBNJ staff, volunteers, and local community partners will be at each location collecting donated holiday food. Most needed items include frozen turkeys, hams, and chicken roasters, as well as canned vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and other shelf-stable Thanksgiving fixings. CFBNJ will also accept other nonperishables and monetary donations.

Last year, the Turkey Drive collected over 4,400 turkeys and more than 35,000 pounds of food thanks to the generosity of those who donated. CFBNJ hopes to make this year’s event even bigger!

“With food prices at a historic high, special holiday meals will be out of reach for so many of our neighbors in need this year,” said Carlos Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “Hunger hurts even more at Thanksgiving. That’s why it’s so important to support our annual Turkey Drive. Together, we can ensure a happy holiday for all of our neighbors.”

Those who can’t make it out to support the Turkey Drive in person can still help by visiting cfbnj.org/turkey to contribute to CFBNJ’s Virtual Turkey Drive.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), a member of Feeding America®, has been delivering food, help and hope across the state for more than 45 years. Last year, CFBNJ provided nutritious food for over 85 million meals through its network of more than 800 community partners including pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, mobile pantries, and child and senior feeding programs throughout the 15 New Jersey counties it serves. For our hungry neighbors, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is the powerful agent of change that fills the emptiness caused by hunger and provides resources that are essential to earning a sustainable living.
