Older Americans Month: Meet Mary Anne

Fortescue in Cumberland County is a forever home for Mary Anne, who has lived in the bayside community for 38 years. Mary Anne loves her life in Fortescue and refers to the town as “a piece of paradise.” After working and raising six children, she settled into retirement and regularly connects with friends she’s made in the community.

She also visits the Fortescue mobile pantry to receive food that will help get her through the month.

“The food distribution is a beautiful thing that’s helped a lot of people. In this day and age, any help is a godsend,” Mary Anne shared.

Mary Anne appreciates the necessities that the pantry provides because it ensures that she has enough money to cover her other living expenses and bills.

“We appreciate any food, but getting nutritious staples is important since they’re things that people have to buy every month,” she said.

“This is the best thing I’ve seen for the people in Fortescue,” Mary Anne added. “It’s helping good people that’ve really never had too much.”
