Wakefern Food Corporation, a retailer-owned cooperative that includes ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, is a major partner of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Year-round, individual ShopRite stores contribute Partners in Caring funds to the FoodBank and its member hunger-fighting charities, and Wakefern recently made a generous financial donation for capital projects at the FoodBank. Together, Wakefern and its ShopRite stores donated more than 4 million pounds of food in the last fiscal year.
ShopRite stores participate in our annual Check-Out Hunger campaign each fall, employees from Wakefern and individual ShopRite stores volunteer at the FoodBank, and Wakefern Vice President Karen Meleta is a longtime member of CFBNJ’s Board of Directors.
In all these ways, the ShopRite/Wakefern partnership is an enormous help in CFBNJ’s fight against hunger and poverty.
