Volunteer Appreciation Month: Meet Dawn and Rich

Dawn and Rich have been volunteering at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey for over 21 years and don’t plan on stopping any time soon! The couple began their volunteering journey at the FoodBank packing boxes in the warehouse and sorting pasta in the clean room once a month.

“We found it extremely rewarding because there’s nothing more important, we feel, than to help feed people,” Rich shared.

Today, they are valued members of the “kitchen crew” and volunteer once a week assisting CFBNJ culinary staff and Food Service Training Academy (FSTA) students in making meals for neighbors in need across New Jersey.

“It’s really cool to be in the kitchen and to know that those meatballs you’re making or the barbecue chicken that you’re packing is going into the mouth of someone who is really hungry,” Dawn said.

Volunteering at the FoodBank is especially meaningful to Dawn and Rich because of the wonderful relationships they’ve built at CFBNJ over the years.

“Whether it’s the amazing folks at the front desk that accommodate our schedules, or the chefs and the staff here, we feel part of the community. We’re like a family!” they said.
